ICAR-CIARI Celebrates Agriculture Education Day with Weeklong Events for School Students

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 3: ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) celebrated Agriculture Education Day on December 3, 2025, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President and former Union Minister of Agriculture. To mark the occasion, a series of activities were organized for school students from November 27 to December 3, 2025, aimed at fostering awareness and interest in agriculture and allied sciences.

As part of this celebration, Students visited the ICAR – CIARI Garacharma campus for a Technology Exposition and Demonstrations, where they explored key facilities including the Fisheries Museum, Integrated Farming System, Livestock Farm, Butterfly Museum, and Library, engaging closely with scientists.

In this valedictory function, Dr. Dilip Kumar Jha, Scientist-F and Officer-in-Charge, NIOT, Sri Vijaya Puram attended as the Chief Guest. He acknowledged the transformative contributions of ICAR-CIARI in advancing island agriculture and encouraged students to pursue careers aligned with their interests, highlighting the vast opportunities in agriculture and agri-startups. Dr. Jha stressed that students visit Science Institution and encouraged to interact with the scientists. He concluded his remarks by congratulating all the students who received prizes and participated in the competitions.

Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR-CIARI, urged students to explore the diverse disciplines within agriculture, emphasizing the growing role of AI, robotics, drones, and sensors in shaping future farming.

Dr. Karunakaran, Scientist and Nodal Officer of the Programme, extended a warm welcome to the school students and their teachers, offering a brief summary of the events. Dr. Sharath S. Yeligar presented the vote of thanks.
