
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 5: The Zonal Agriculture Office, South Andaman, in association with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Prothrapur Block, celebrated World Soil Day-2025 at Calicut Village today, along with a two-day training programme on ‘Soil and Water Conservation Techniques.’ The event was organized under the global theme “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities.”
Shri T Yaghambaram, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Calicut, graced the occasion as the chief guest, encouraged farmers to implement soil and water conservation practices to safeguard natural resources for future generations. Dr. S. C. Rekha, Assistant Director (Agri), South Andaman welcomed the gathering, stressing the importance of protecting soil resources and promoting community involvement in sustainable farming.
During the technical sessions, Shri Ravi Ch. Suthradhar, Agriculture Officer and Smti Udaya Kumari, Agriculture Officer on the topic. Farmers actively interacted with the officials, clarified their technical doubts and shared field-level challenges, making the sessions more meaningful and participatory. As part of the celebration, Soil Health Cards were distributed to farmers, enabling them to understand the nutrient status of their fields and adopt appropriate soil management strategies.
