Directorate of Shipping Services to Charter Three 50-Passenger Vessels for Deployment in Inland Waterways

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 8: The Directorate of Shipping Services, A&N Administration, is further strengthening harbour-sector connectivity by initiating the chartering of three 50-passenger vessels for deployment in the inland waterways of Diglipur, Long Island and Nancowry region. This step reinforces DSS’s commitment to provide smooth, reliable and better connectivity in time. This shall also reduce the additional burden on the available resources.

As the principal public transport lifeline of the Islands, DSS continues to support daily mobility, livelihoods and access to essential services. With rising service demand and an ageing fleet, DSS is proactively augmenting capacity to ensure uninterrupted, dependable movement for residents.

The chartered vessels will bolster routine services on key harbour routes, benefitting daily commuters and enhancing overall service stability. This forward-looking measure underscores the DSS’s commitment already to keep essential connectivity strong and accessible at all times.

To operationalise this initiative, tenders have been published on 03.12.2025 in A&N Administration’s official e-procurement portal: eprocure.andamannicobar.gov.in, inviting participation from competent firms.

DSS reiterates its commitment to maintaining efficient, safe and welfare-oriented maritime services for the Island community.
