
Mayabunder, Dec. 8: The Mayabunder Zonal Conference of the CITU was held at Mayabunder on 7 December, 2025. Inaugurating the Zonal Conference, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU, Andaman & Nicobar State Committee briefly explained the dangers of the recently notified four Labour Codes, which were enacted by the Parliament during 2019 and 2020. He said that the workers in the country will be deprived of many benefits/rights which they were enjoying from the time of Britishers. He called upon the workers in the islands to come forward to oppose these anti-working class laws, which were made only for the benefit of the corporate in the country. PK Khalid, Secretary, CITU State Committee while addressing the Conference emphasized the need to strengthen the CITU and trade unions affiliated to it for the very survival of the working class in the islands.
A large number of workers representing various unions affiliated to CITU and functioning in the Mayabunder area attended the Zonal Conference, which was presided over by Ramesh Pradhan. Javed Mohammed welcomed the participants. Murugan, Secretary, Zonal Committee also spoke. A new Zonal Committee was elected in the Conference with Subramanian, Murugan, Mohammed Javed and S. Rajesh as President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
The Kadamtala-Baratang Zonal Conference of CITU was also held on 7th December, 2025 at the Forest Club, Nilambur, Baratang. B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU, State Committee, who inaugurated the Conference, briefly explained the importance of the CITU State Conference scheduled to be held on 20 – 21 December 2025 at Port Blair. He criticized the government for bringing black laws to suppress the voice of the working class in the country at the behest of corporates. He recalled the valiant struggle conducted by the Forest workers of Baratang in the past on various issues of workers including the implementation of Govt. of India’s order on 1/30th of pay plus DA to Daily Rated Mazdoors. Daniel Aint, Vice President, Anand Raj and Shipra Bala, Secretaries of CITU also spoke on the occasion. At the beginning of the Zonal Conference, a procession of workers was taken out at the Nilambur area. A large number of workers from different unions functioning at Kadamtala and Baratang attended the Conference.
