
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 14: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands held National Lok Adalat in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR centre “PRAYAS”, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder, Diglipur and at Campbell Bay (through virtual mode) today.
A total of 354 pre-litigation cases including 870 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases, 02 pre-litigation cases already registered at DLSA and 674 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat out of which 18 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and 03 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 18 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 78,98,236/- have been settled at Rs. 45,30,000/-, thus paying a benefit of Rs. 33,68,236/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs. 2,02,500/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 03 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 37,125/- was settled at Rs. 16,500/- which was realized on the spot. 01 Money suit involving an amount of Rs. 5,02,146/- was settled at Rs. 1,75,000/- and Rs. 5,000/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 01 pre-litigation case already registered, the involved amount of Rs. 40,511/- was settled at Rs. 20,000/- which was paid on the spot. Disposing of 491 Criminal cases a sum of Rs. 8,43,350/- was realized as fine. Disposing of 02 cases through virtual mode pertaining to Campbell Bay, a fine amount of Rs. 14,000/- was realized.
In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 27 pre-litigation cases including 83 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred out of which 06 pre-litigation bank cases were disposed. Disposing of 06 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 16,18,864/- have been settled at Rs. 11,40,000/-. A sum of Rs. 13,600/- was realized. 83 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 76 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 76,650/- was realized.
In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 33 pre-litigation cases including 111 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred. Disposing of 13 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 12,68,708/- have been settled at Rs. 6,96,000/-. A sum of Rs. 52,000/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 12 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 30,892/- was settled at Rs. 15,100/- which was realized on the spot. 41 cases pending in court were taken up out of which 38 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 1,78,300/- was realized.
The District Legal Services Authority has constituted four benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur.

The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Shri. Subhajit Basu, Addl. District & Sessions Judge, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Smt. Banani Biswas, Advocate and Janab Abdul Siddique, Social Worker. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Shri. Saurav Adak, Chief Judicial Magistrate, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Shri. Biswajit Mondal, Advocate and Shri. Harekrishna Halder, Social worker.
