Fishermen Watch Group Meeting Held at Kishorinagar to Strengthen Coastal Vigilance

Diglipur, Dec. 18: A Fishermen Watch Group Meeting was held on 17.12.2025 at the Panchayat Hall, Kishorinagar, under the chairmanship of Smti. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (District), North & Middle Andaman. The meeting was attended by Shri Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur; Shri Tapan Kumar, Assistant Director, Fisheries, N&MA and SI Shibender Nath Halder, SHO, PS Kalighat. Pradhans and PRI members were also present during the meeting. The meeting witnessed active participation of over 50+ fishermen.

The meeting aimed to sensitize the fishermen community, enhance coastal vigilance and further strengthen community policing initiatives. Fishermen, being the “eyes and ears” along the coastline, were briefed on their crucial role in coastal security. They were urged to immediately report any suspicious activities, vessels or movements noticed during their fishing activities to the nearest Police Station.

Emphasis was laid on real-time information sharing with the police to enable swift and effective action against any potential threats. Fishermen were also apprised of the standard protocols for sharing intelligence inputs and were assured of all necessary support and protection by the police.

The Chairperson appreciated the proactive cooperation of the fishermen community and thanked them for their valuable inputs during the recent Anti-Poaching Operation, which led to the apprehension of 08 Myanmarese poachers, seizure of a dinghy, and recovery of approximately 800 kg of sea cucumber.

The North & Middle Andaman District Police reaffirm their commitment to ensuring a safe and secure coastline and seek continued active cooperation from all stakeholders, especially the vibrant fishermen community, in ongoing and future Anti-Poaching Operations.

The general public is requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to any crime or illegal activities to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. The identity of the informers will be kept secret and will also be suitably rewarded.
