Awareness Programme on Drug and Substance Abuse under Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan Organised at GB Brindaban

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 01: In connection with Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyaan, awareness programme on Drug and Substance Abuse was held on Dec. 30 at Gram Panchayat Brindaban. The programme was organized by Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts (IRCA) under District Administration, South Andaman and collaboration with NAPDDR Directorate of Social Welfare, NTCP Directorate of Health Services and Anti-Narcotic CID Branch A&N Police.

Large number of public and PRIs member, Gram Panchayat Brindaban attended the programme. Smt M.A Naseem Banu, Pradhan Gram Panchayat Brindaban and Shri U.K. Abdul Aziz, Zilla Parishad Member Gram Panchyant, Brindaban addressed the gathering and urged them to refrain from addiction.

Dr. M.K Mahato, Medical Officer DDR/IRCA, SA spoke at length regarding ill effect of alcohol and substance abuse, he also spoke about the methods how to refrain from substance abuse. Shri Rathindra Mallick, Psychologist Counselor, NTCP, Directorate of Health Services spoke on the ill effects of tobacco and how to refrain from tobacco. He also spoke the details of COTPA Act. Shri Surya Narayan, Assistant Sub Inspector, Anti-Narcotics (CID) spoke on the legal aspect including NDPS Act offences. Ms. Anchamma, Project Coordinator, NAPDDR, Directorate of Social Welfare, provided insights into the current status of drug addiction in the A&N Islands. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed Shri Rohit Paroi, Project Coordinator-Cum-Vocation Counsellor, DDR/IRCA.
