Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 2: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) today organised a Public Meeting at Ward No. 14 to strongly oppose the G RAM G Bill introduced by the BJP-led Central Government, which seeks to repeal the historic MGNREGA scheme that has been a lifeline for rural and economically weaker sections.
Addressing the gathering, ANTCC President Shri Rangalal Halder, City Congress President Shri Mohd Zubair, Youth Congress Vice-President Mr. M.A. Sajid, OBC Chairman Shri R.K. Raj and INTUC General Secretary Shri Mohd Rafi strongly criticised the BJP Government for its anti-poor policies and warned that scrapping MGNREGA would severely affect employment, livelihood security, and rural development in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In addition to opposing the G RAM G Bill, several local issues faced by the residents of the area were discussed, and assurances were given that the Congress Party would continue to raise these concerns at appropriate forums.
The programme was effectively organised by Congress Leader Smt. S. Sita Lakshmi Ji, along with her supporters, ensuring active participation and smooth conduct of the meeting.
Congress Seva Dal Joint Secretary Mr. Akshay Kumar, along with local residents and members of the general public, attended the programme.
