
Car Nicobar, Jan. 7: The Director of Education/ Sports, Shri Vikram Singh today visited Car Nicobar and inspected the venue (SAI, STC Modern Sports Complex Lapathy, Car Nicobar) where selection trials Phase –I are underway for the Khelo India Tribal Games First Edition, being organized by the Department of Education and Sports and Youth Affairs under the guidelines of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
During the visit, the Director reviewed the football selection trials being conducted at Car Nicobar and interacted with Officials/Representatives from State Sports Association and Eminent Athletes, PETs, and participating sportspersons. He highlighted the objectives of the teams participating in the First Edition of Khelo India Tribal Games which is tentatively scheduled to be held at Chhattisgarh in the month of Feb. 2026.
The Director further informed that this year the Tribal Games are being organized at a significantly larger level in mainland, with teams from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands participating in 7 to 8 different sports disciplines (Football, Hockey, Athletics, Weightlifting, Archery & Swimming). The primary objective is to select players purely on the basis of raw talent and merit, so that sportspersons from the Islands can perform exceptionally well and secure the maximum number of medals for A& N Islands. He also informed that the archery and swimming events are being conducted in South Andaman, as most participants belong to Little Andaman and Sri Vijaya Puram, while football selection trials are being conducted at Car Nicobar.
The teams will be selected in all sports disciplines (Football, Hockey, Athletics and Weightlifting) for the Khelo India Tribal Games, the Director said and urged all eligible youth to participate actively in the trials and to encourage their peers to take part enthusiastically.
