Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 9: An awareness programme on Artificial Insemination was organised by the Department of AH&VS, Wimberlygunj, at the Gram Panchayat Hall, Wimberlygunj on Jan. 7. The Director, AH&VS, spoke about the Department’s mandate and sought farmers’ feedback on veterinary services. He highlighted the importance of balanced ration for better animal health and productivity. He stressed the growing demand for fresh cow milk in the islands, which can only be met by developing high-yielding cows through A.I. He explained that sex-sorted semen A.I. not only ensures the birth of desired female calves but also helps reduce the male calf population. He further elaborated on Embryo Transfer Technology, through which desired female calves can be produced in the shortest possible time.
The Pradhans of Wimberlygunj, Kanyapuram and Mannarghat also addressed the farmers, urging them to cooperate with the department for improved animal health and milk production. In his address, the Senior Veterinary Officer, Wimberlygunj, emphasized the importance of Artificial Insemination (A.I.) and its pivotal role in transforming the dairy industry.
