Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 11: The “North Bay Road Marathon–6.0” as part of National Youth Day was conducted by the Deputy Education Officer, Wimberlygunj under the Directorate of Education & Sports today. The event was open to all and featured a 10 km run for men and school boys, and a 5 km run for women and girl students of the Wimberlygunj Educational Zone. The marathon route extended from Chunnabatta (Ram Mandir) to North Bay and back.
Around 215 participants enthusiastically took part in the event. The event of Open to all Men & School Boys was flagged off by Lt Colonel Sachin Pavaskar & variant Open to All Women & School Girls category was flagged off by Dr Manoharan, DEO, Wimberlygunj.
The chief guest for the occasion was Shri Vikram Singh, Director (Education). In his address, he urged the younger generation to take part in the marathon every month and also emphasized to participate in the “Andaman Marathon” to be held on 8th Febrauary, 2026. He highlighted that the Marathon is a monthly event and encouraged everyone to participate regularly.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Smti Mariyam Bibi. Zilla Parishad Member Bambooflat , Shri P Abdul Bashir, Pradhan, GP Kanyapuram & Shri Venkat Ram Babu, Pradhan, GP Wimberlygunj. Cash prizes were sponsored by Canara Bank, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The vote of thanks was given by Smti Mariyam Bibi. Zilla Parishad Member, Bambooflat. Winners of each category were awarded cash prizes and medals in recognition of their outstanding performance.
