Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 28: A meeting of the District Beach Management Committee was held today on 28th January, 2026 in the Conference Hall under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman/ Chairman District Beach Management Committee.
During the meeting, the Director (Tourism) informed that nine beaches fall under the jurisdiction of the District Beach Management Committee. It was decided that one beach each from Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and New Wandoor will be taken up on priority for preparation of the Beach Management Master Plan.
The Committee also discussed the zoning of beach areas under the Beach Management Plan. It was decided that the beaches shall be divided into zones such as beach sports activities, children’s play area, community area, and activity areas including star gazing, water sports and inter-tidal walks.
Further, the Committee decided to conduct inspections of the identified beaches in coordination with local PRIs, Forest Department, ANET, Tourism Department and other stakeholders.
