
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 4: World Wetland Day (WWD) was observed on 2nd February, 2026 with an awareness programme aimed to educate students about the importance of Wetlands and Biodiversity Conservation. World Wetland Day is celebrated annually to mark the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands, signed on 2nd February, 1971 in Ramsar, Iran.
As part of the celebrations, an awareness lecture was organized at the Department of Science & Technology Awareness Hub for students of Government Middle School, Dollygunj on Feb. 2. Dr. B. Sumit Kumar Rao, Entomologist (NVBDCP), as the chief guest delivered an informative and engaging lecture on the ecological significance of wetlands and the need for biodiversity conservation.
A total of 50 students participated in the programme and actively interacted during the session.
