APWD Conducts Training Programme for Master Trainers with an aim to Promote Water Conservation

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 4: In an important initiative to promote water conservation, a training program for Master Trainers was conducted by the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), A&N Administration in the conference hall of the Chief Engineer’s Office, APWD, with the aim to foster awareness on water conservation among school children.

The training saw the participation of one teacher from each Government and private school from the Headquarter area. Shri Jose P John, Assistant Engineer, APWD, welcomed the participants and explained the key objectives of the training. He emphasized that the children would be the most effective ambassadors for spreading water conservation awareness, not just in schools but also at home and within their communities. “When children are taught about the importance of water conservation, they naturally take it upon themselves to spread the message, creating a ripple effect throughout society,” said Shri Jose.

Dr. Arun Kumar, Superintending Engineer (Planning), APWD, made an insightful Power Point presentation outlining the critical issues surrounding water usage and conservation. He elaborated on practical steps to conserve water and introduced various formats for conducting water audits. A simplified water auditing format was distributed to all participants to assist students in gathering data on water usage within their respective schools and homes.

Dr. Arun further encouraged the teachers to instill habits in students that promote water reuse and conservation, suggesting that they incorporate short talks on water-saving practices during morning assemblies. “Every small action matters, and making it a daily habit will go a long way in conserving our precious water resources,” he stated. In the conclusion of the training, one of the participants Ms. Sudha Dixit from GMS Corbyn’s Cove summarized the key takeaways and expressed a commitment to encourage students to undertake water audits and adopt water conservation practices in their daily lives.

The Public Grievance Officer, in his closing remarks, extended his gratitude to the Director of Education and the heads of educational institutions for supporting the training initiative and allowing their teachers to participate. This program marks an essential step towards empowering educators to become effective change agents in promoting water conservation among future generations.
