A&N Requests General Public to Contribute for A&N Union Territory Pavilion at NMHC Lothal

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 9: The National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), a prestigious and innovative project under the Sagarmala Programme of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, aims to showcase India’s rich and diverse maritime heritage. This ambitious project is being developed at Lothal, Gujarat, by the Government of India.

The Pavilion, as part of the NMHC, will feature state-sponsored sections, designed and themed to reflect the unique architecture, culture, lifestyle, and maritime heritage of the participating States and Union Territories. The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is committed to creating an impressive Coastal Union Territory Pavilion that truly represents the heritage and legacy of the A&N Islands.

In this regard, the A&N Administration has requested the general public to contribute materials, information, and artifacts that may be displayed in the A & N Union Territory Pavilion at NMHC, Lothal.

Contributions may include, but are not limited to:

•Coastal archaeological sites along with port towns;

•Artifacts and antiquities such as sculptures, terracotta, figurines, coins, paintings, and manuscripts showcasing rich maritime traditions;

•Monuments, temples, forts, and cave sites along with sculptures and inscriptions Cultural aspects of communities living along the coast, including their traditions and heritage;

•Boat-building techniques and the legacy of shipbuilding;

•Trade, cultural, and religious interactions of each State/Union Territory with foreign nations;

•Continuity of art and craft traditions such as bead making, pottery, textiles, and metal work;

•Replicas of forts, coastline activities, ancient ships, and celebrations of festivals, regional maritime heritage, culture, folklore, and food;

All relevant information and materials available in this regard may be provided to the Secretary (Art & Culture), Andaman & Nicobar Administration. Contributions and information can be shared through the email ID: artand.culture@and.nic.in and in the office of Art & Culture Department.

The A&N Administration expects great cooperation of the general public in enabling it to showcase its rich and diverse maritime heritage in the Andaman and Nicobar Pavilion at NMHC, Lothal, Gujarat. All contributions will likely be acknowledged in A & N Pavilion at NMHC, Lothal.  The A&N Administration hopes for enthusiastic participation from the public in creating a Pavilion that proudly represents the Islands’ vibrant heritage and legacy.
