Andaman and Nicobar Command Conducts Anti-Hijack Exercise at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 26: Andaman and Nicobar Command conducted a comprehensive anti-hijack exercise at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport on 26 February 2026, simulating a realistic hijack scenario to test and validate established response mechanisms.

The exercise was coordinated by INS Utkrosh under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command. It aimed to assess the effectiveness of the airport’s contingency plan, safeguard passenger safety and ensure seamless inter-agency coordination in the event of an actual hijack situation.

The drill witnessed active participation and demonstrated effective coordination among Central Industrial Security Force, National Security Guard, Airports Authority of India and State Government agencies, reflecting a high level of operational preparedness to handle emergent contingencies.

A detailed debrief was conducted post-exercise to analyse performance, highlight key lessons and revalidate Standard Operating Procedures, thereby reinforcing collective commitment to vigilance and readiness.

This annual drill, mandated in accordance with Bureau of Civil Aviation Security guidelines, reaffirms the preparedness of Andaman and Nicobar Command and all concerned agencies to ensure passenger safety and guarantee a swift and effective response to hijack-like situations.
