Sri Vijaya Puram, March 9: To mark the celebration of International Women’s Day, the Red Ribbon Club of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) organized an AIDS Sensitization Program aimed at creating awareness among youth about HIV/AIDS prevention, transmission, stigma, and treatment.
The program was organized under the guidance of Shri Altamash Mustafa, Nodal Officer of the Red Ribbon Club, Dean IQAC, and Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, DBRAIT.
The session featured Smt. Mini, ICTC Counselor ANACS, Dept of Health as the resource person. She delivered an informative and interactive talk on HIV/AIDS control, causes, modes of transmission, preventive measures, importance of testing, and Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). She also highlighted the need to eliminate social stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV/AIDS, emphasizing the role of youth in spreading awareness and promoting responsible behaviour.
Following the awareness session, a PowerPoint Presentation Competition was conducted where students presented on topics related to AIDS prevention, transmission, control strategies, stigma reduction, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs/STDs). The event encouraged students to research and present scientific and technical perspectives on HIV/AIDS.
The program concluded with an AIDS Awareness Quiz Competition, which tested students’ knowledge on HIV/AIDS facts, prevention strategies, and global and national control programs. The quiz generated enthusiastic participation and helped reinforce key messages delivered during the sensitization session.
The initiative was organized as part of the Red Ribbon Club activities of DBRAIT to sensitize youth and promote awareness about HIV/AIDS, aligning with the broader objective of building a well-informed and socially responsible student community.
Faculty members and students appreciated the program for its informative content and its contribution to promoting health awareness, gender sensitivity, and social responsibility among young learners. The event was conducted with the support and encouragement of Prof. Sanmukh Kaur, Principal of DBRAIT.
