Krishna Ram of Little Andaman Creates Shining Example of Self Employment with the Support of AH&VS

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 9: Shri Krishna Ram, a resident of Nanjappa Nagar at Little Andaman Island, has created a shining example of self-employment by turning from an unemployed youth into a successful poultry farmer with the support of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) and CLF Hutbay.

Unable to find regular work and struggling to earn a livelihood, Shri Krishna Ram, S/o Shri Bahadur Ram, was inspired one day by poultry farming videos on YouTube. Despite having no prior knowledge or experience, he decided to start his own farm. He began his venture with guidance from online videos and later received 180 Vanaraja chicks from CLF Hutbay along with free medications provided timely by the AH&VS Department. His hard work is now yielding excellent results. As on 15th January 2026, he is left with 171 healthy chicks weighing around 1.2–1.5 kg each. He plans to sell them within the next two weeks at a wholesale rate of around Rs. 300 per kg. Shri Krishna has invested only Rs. 16,000 in feed and basic infrastructure and is expecting a profit of nearly Rs. 62,000 from this batch. Extremely happy and enthusiastic, he has decided to make poultry farming his full-time career.

The inspiring journey of Shri Krishna Ram highlights how the Department of AH&VS and CLF Hutbay are successfully empowering rural youth of Little Andaman through quality chicks, free medicines and continuous technical support.
