
Sri Vijaya Puram, March 15: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands held National Lok Adalat in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR centre- “PRAYAS”, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder, Diglipur and at Campbell Bay (through virtual mode) today which started its functioning from 10.00 am onwards.
A total of 128 pre-litigation cases including 690 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases, 07 pre-litigation cases already registered at DLSA and 708 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat out of which 32 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and 05 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 32 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 1,62,62,797/- have been settled at Rs. 97,78,000/-, thus paving a benefit of Rs. 1,42,84,797/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs. 15,53,500/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 5 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 79,860/- was settled at Rs. 30,500/- out of which Rs.21,500/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 02 registered pre-litigation cases, the involved amount of Rs. 14,10,000/- was settled at Rs. 12,10,000/- out of which Rs. 11,000/- was paid on the spot. Disposing of 418 Criminal cases a sum of Rs. 10,13,750/- was realized as fine. Disposing of 18 cases under Motor Vehicle act through virtual mode pertaining to Campbell Bay, a fine amount of Rs. 46,950/- was realized. Out of 02 pre-litigation bank recovery cases 01 case involving an amount of Rs.89,000/- was settled at Rs.50,000/-
In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 02 pre-litigation cases including 34 criminal compoundable cases were referred out of which 02 pre-litigation bank cases were disposed. Disposing of 02 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 27,87,603/- have been settled at Rs. 14,00,000/-. A sum of Rs. 55,000/- was realized on the spot. 45 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 24 cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 12,700/- was realized. In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 07 pre-litigation cases including 64 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred. Disposing of 02 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 80,233/-/- have been settled at Rs. 45,000/-. A sum of Rs. 5,000/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 01 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 3,971/- was settled at Rs. 2,000/- which was realized on the spot. 50 cases pending in court were taken up out of which 34 criminal cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 1,01,450/- was realized.
The District Legal Services Authority has constituted four benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur. The Benches at Port Blair were presided over by Shri. Sheheer, Advocate, Ms. Karishma, Advocate, Smti. Komal Anand, social worker, Smti. Marya Sheela, PRAYAS (NGO), social worker, Shri. Mandeep Singh Gerewal, social worker and Shri. K. Vijay Kumar, PRAYAS (NGO), social worker. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Shri. Saurav Adak, Addl. District & Sessions Judge (i/c), N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Smti. Banani Biswas, Advocate and Smti. Katrina Barwa, social worker. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Shri. Somnath Das, Judicial Magistrate First Class, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Smt. Ranjita Sarkar, Advocate and Shri. P J Eappen, Social worker.
