
Sri Vijaya Puram, March 18: CPI (M) has organized a mass demonstration in front of the Municipal Council at Aberdeen Bazar, Port Blair today (18.03.2026) evening demanding (i) withdrawal of price hike on LPG cylinders, (ii) against power-cut and (iii) against curtailment of water supply.
Inaugurating the mass demonstration, former State Secretary of CPI (M) KG Das criticized the Modi government for the sudden hike in the prices of LPG cylinders recently in the wake of attack on Iran by US-supported Israel. He said that people of developing countries like India are bearing brunt of war between Iran and US-Israel combine.
Addressing the participants in the programme, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee said that the sudden attack on Iran by US-Israel alliance is impacting the third world countries. He blamed the central government for keeping silent on the unjustified sudden attack on Iran by Israel, deviating from the hitherto followed policy of condemning such attack. He expressed concern over the non-availability of LPG cylinders and petroleum products in the coming days across the country in general and A&N Islands in particular. He also expressed concern over the unjustified curtailment of water supply in the Municipal areas and rural areas in the islands. He blamed the BJP-led government for the power-cut in the islands for the last several years.
P. Sathyapal, Secretary, Port Blair City Area Committee, Senior leader P. Banerjee and R. Surendran Pillai addressed the gathering. Dr Gouranga Majhi, State Secretariat Member, SP Kalairajan, State Organising Committee Member and BC Bhattacharjee and KG Samkutty, Area Committee Members led the mass demonstration. A large number of people from Port Blair town participated in the mass demonstration.
At Diglipur, the Mass Demonstration was held in front of the office of the Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur on the above issues. A large number of people participated in the mass demonstration. CPI (M) State Organising Committee Member Ramjeeban Sarkar inaugurated the programme. Sunil Bepari, State Organising Committee Member, addressed the participants. Dilip Karmakar, State Organising Committee Member and Anil Halder and Barun Biswas, Area Committee Members, led the Mass Demonstration.
