Sri Vijaya Puram, March 20: Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, laid the foundation stones today (20.03.2026) for CRF-funded works relating to resurfacing, widening and improvement of internal link roads at five locations in the Municipal area, namely Lillipur (Ward No. 1), Haddo (Ward No. 2), Majeed road – Aberdeen Bazar (Ward No.4), Buniyadabad – Panipath road (Ward No. 8) and Junglighat (Ward No. 6).
The programme was attended by the Chairperson, Secretary, respective Ward Councillors of Sri Vijayapuram Municipal Council, prominent citizens, local residents and senior citizens of the concerned wards. On the occasion, the residents expressed their happiness and appreciation over the commencement of these much-needed road works, stating that the projects would greatly improve connectivity and ensure smoother movement of vehicles and pedestrians in their respective areas.
Residents and Ward Councillors stated that, owing to paucity of funds, the Municipal Council could not undertake these works earlier. However, with the intervention and continuous efforts of Hon’ble MP Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, the works have now been taken up under CRF, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people. They also appreciated the MP for his commitment and sincere initiative in addressing the basic infrastructure needs of the public.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble MP Shri Bishnu Pada Ray stated that the estimated cost of the road works in each ward is approximately Rs. 1 crore. He said that the improvement of these roads would significantly enhance connectivity and facilitate easier and safer movement for commuters, which has been one of the main demands of the residents. He further stated that he remains committed to fulfilling the genuine aspirations and developmental needs of the people of these Islands.
