
Hutbay, March 25: The team of Police Station Hut Bay has once again demonstrated exemplary professionalism, vigilance and unwavering commitment in the ongoing fight against Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. In a landmark achievement for A&N Police a record quantity of contraband has been seized, marking the first ever recovery of such a large quantity of Charas (Hashish) in the history of A&N Islands. The total quantity recovered is 1.141 Kg of Charas (Hashish), which falls under the category of commercial quantity as defined under the NDPS Act.
On 24/03/2026, a credible information regarding Narcotic drugs was received from a reliable source by Inspector Pritam Behari, SHO PS Hut Bay. Acting swiftly on the information, a raiding team comprising of Inspector Pritam Behari, SHO PS Hut Bay alongwith ASI(SG) Victor Dung Dung, HCs M. Sudarsana Rao, Kuldeep Kumar, Bryan, Sarbojit Roy, HC(D) Manoj Kumar Ekka and PC K. Naresh was immediately formed. Subsequently, the SHO requested Shri Berthazar, BDO, Little Andaman (Executive Magistrate) along with two independent witnesses to ensure transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
The raiding team proceeded to South Bay, Little Andaman equipped with investigation kit. Upon reaching the seashore area, an intensive search operation was conducted in the adjoining jungle based on the specific input. During the search, 1.141 Kg of Charas (Hashish) was recovered and the same was seized on the spot after observing all codal formalities. Upon this, a case under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered at PS Hut Bay against unknown person and further investigation is in progress.
The entire operation was conducted under the leadership of Inspector. Pritam Behari, SHO PS Hutbay under the command of Shri. Aditya Kumar, DANIPS, SDPO Swaraj Dweep.
The significant seizure underscores the sustained and proactive efforts of the Andaman & Nicobar Police in curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding the community from the menace of Narcotic substances. Further, the general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 112, 03192-232100, 03192-236641 and 9531856080. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
