
Car Nicobar, March 27: The Inaugural Ceremony of the Tribal Indigenous Games – Tribal Sports Festival Car Nicobar 2026, organized under the Fit India Initiative, was held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Modern Sports Complex, Big Lapathy, Car Nicobar. The event was organized by SAI STC Car Nicobar in association with the Tribal Council and the Nicobar Games & Sports Association (NGSA).
The Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Shri. Amit Kale, IAS, formally declared the festival open and also unveiled the trophies for the U-18 Inter-Village Football Tournament and the prestigious Lt. Esaw Isaac Football Rolling Trophy. In his address, the chief guest emphasized the importance of the Fit India Initiative, highlighting that ‘Rozana Sharirik Gatividhi Bahut Zaroori Hai’.
The ceremony also featured a ‘Mock Canoe Race Demonstration’ by participants from Perka Village, Master Roshanto and Master Cain, showcasing traditional sporting excellence. A large crowd gathered to witness the event, with 11 teams participating in the festival. The first competition of the day, the traditional Harah game, was played between Team Kinyuka and Team Perka, where Team Perka emerged victorious by securing the highest points within the stipulated time. Shri Joseph Theophilus, General Secretary, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, welcomed the gathering.
