Checkmate Plastic: Chess and Cleanliness Drive Organized at Ramnagar Beach

Diglipur, March 29: The Checkmate Plastic – Chess and Cleanliness Drive was successfully organized this evening at Ramnagar Beach, North & Middle Andaman, recently declared a pilot Blue Flag beach, symbolising high standards of cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental management. The programme was conducted by the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) in collaboration with Gram Panchayat Ramnagar and the Range Office, Kalighat, Diglipur Division.

The event was inaugurated by Shri Shivendra Singh, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Diglipur Division, who made the ceremonial first move on the chessboard to mark the beginning of the programme.

A large number of chess enthusiasts, including local villagers and tourists, enthusiastically participated in the initiative. The programme commenced with a beach clean-up drive, during which participants collected plastic and other waste materials, contributing to the preservation of the natural beauty of Ramnagar Beach. This was followed by an engaging chess event that brought together players of all age groups.

Prizes were awarded to the best-performing chess players as well as to the most active participants in the cleanliness drive by Shri Mithun Das, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Ramnagar & Shri. Govind Raj, Range Officer, Kalighat during the closing ceremony.

The event effectively highlighted the theme: “Checkmating plastic and protecting our beach while promoting chess.” It also inspired participants to act responsibly and recognize the importance of sustainability in their daily lives.
