Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 4: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) actively participated in several prominent melas during January 2026, setting up informative and interactive departmental stalls to engage directly with farmers, livestock owners, students, and the general public. These participations formed part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to promote scientific animal husbandry practices, raise awareness about government schemes, and strengthen community outreach in both rural and tourist areas.
The Department had a visible presence at Vivekananda Mela in Shaheed Dweep on Jan. 12, followed by strong participation in Subhash Mela events held simultaneously at Mayabunder, Kadamtala, and Swaraj Dweep on Jan. 23. At each venue, the AH&VS stall served as an important platform to showcase a wide range of departmental schemes and services, including vaccination drives, disease prevention measures, artificial insemination (AI & SSS-AI), poultry and goatery development programmes, fodder management techniques, and various financial assistance and subsidy schemes available for farmers and livestock rearers.
Veterinary officers and trained staff remained present throughout the melas, interacting closely with visitors, providing on-the-spot guidance, answering queries related to animal health, vaccination schedules, nutrition, breeding techniques, and farm management, and distributing informational materials. The stalls received an encouraging and enthusiastic response from farmers, students, women SHG members, and the general public, reflecting growing interest in scientific animal husbandry practices and the Department’s support programmes.
