AH&VS Conducts Awareness-cum-Training on AI at Hut Bay

Hut Bay, Nov. 4: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, conducted an awareness-cum-training program on Artificial Insemination (AI) techniques on October 29, 2025, at R.K. Pur Panchayat Bhavan, Hut Bay, Little Andaman. The event saw participation from PRI members, representatives of the local cooperative society, and women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The program began with a detailed briefing on the AI initiative and its role in improving livestock productivity. Veterinary experts demonstrated the AI technique step-by-step, enabling participants to observe the procedure closely. At the conclusion, essential medicines for livestock and poultry were distributed to the attendees, along with informative reading materials on animal husbandry practices.

Participants were also apprised of the department’s latest schemes, including Sex-Sorted Semen (SSS) AI and the induction of high-yielding dairy cows, aimed at enhancing milk production and genetic improvement of local cattle. The session encouraged farmers to adopt modern breeding methods for better economic returns and sustainable farming.

The active participation of community leaders and SHG members, despite adverse weather, reflects their commitment to upgrading animal husbandry practices. This initiative underscores the AH&VS Department’s efforts to reach remote areas and empower farmers with scientific knowledge and resources. The program aligns with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s vision of promoting advanced livestock management and supporting rural livelihoods through targeted outreach and capacity building.
