Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 4: The Department of AH&VS conducted an awareness programme on dog bite prevention and safety measures at Government Middle School, Manglutan on Dec. 2. The session, tailored for young school children, covered essential topics such as adopting safe behaviour around dogs, practical measures to prevent bites, immediate first-aid actions including thorough washing of the wound with soap and running water, prompt reporting of bite incidents to the nearest health or veterinary facility, and the importance of completing the full course of anti-rabies vaccination.
The children were also educated about the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, which remains the most humane and scientific method to control the stray dog population and significantly reduce bite incidents across residential and school areas.
