
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 28: To meet the growing demand for poultry ducklings among farmers, the Department of AH&VS has distributed 1300 Nos. of Vigova Ducklings on 27.10.2025 through its institutions across South Andaman. The distribution was carried by departmental institutions including Veterinary Hospital, Wimberlygunj, Veterinary Dispensaries at Port Mout, Manglutan; Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma & Central Hatchery, Livestock Farm Complex, Dollygunj. This initiative aims to strengthen backyard and semi intensive duck rearing in the Islands, thereby promoting rural livelihood and egg & meat production.
To sustain continues supply, the Department is procuring Vigova Duck Hatching Eggs in a phased manner from Central Poultry Development Organisation (CPDO), Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru which are being set for incubation at departmental hatcheries.
Vigova Ducks are meat type having high growth rate, adaptable to both intensive & semi intensive rearing system and having average body weight of 3 to 3.5 kg.
