
Mayabunder, Nov. 28: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services organised a Veterinary Health Camp at Pahalgaon Panchayat, Mayabunder, on Nov. 25 in collaboration with ICAR–CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram, aimed at improving reproductive health and productivity of livestock in the region.
During the camp, cattle from Tugapur No. 8, Tugapur No. 6 and Pahalgaon village were examined by Dr. P. Perumal, Senior Scientist and expert in Veterinary Gynaecology and Dr. Sujata Hegde, SVO, Zonal Officer, Mayabunder. A total of 14 cattle were examined for various reproductive health issues, including pregnancy diagnosis and infertility-related problems.
As part of the intervention, one cow and one buffalo in heat were artificially inseminated using improved variety semen straws of Sahiwal and Murrah breeds, respectively, to enhance genetic potential and productivity of local livestock.
In addition, all animals brought to the camp were dewormed and provided mineral mixtures to improve their overall health and nutritional status.
The camp received a positive response from livestock farmers and proved beneficial in creating awareness about scientific animal management practices. The Department’s initiative of holding Infertility camps for cattle & Buffaloes is expected to revive non-productive animals thus improvement of milk production in rural areas.
