Calicut, Dec. 3: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services organised a comprehensive awareness programme at Government Senior Secondary School (GSS) Calicut on Dec. 1, to educate students and staff about safety around animals and the need for compassion towards them. The session was conducted by Dr V. Subramanian, Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Hospital Garacharma, who spoke at length on preventive behaviour around animals, immediate first-aid measures in case of animal bites, the importance of prompt reporting to the nearest veterinary or health facility, prevention of cruelty to animals, humane ways to address the stray dog menace, and the promising career opportunities available in the field of veterinary science and animal husbandry.
The programme saw active participation from Headmistress Smti Jaya Singh, six teachers, sixty-three students and Veterinary Compounder Smti T. Zareena, who provided technical assistance. An engaging interactive session followed the presentation, during which the students enthusiastically raised numerous doubts and practical questions.
