Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 7: In a significant step towards improving the nutritional status and livelihood of the tribal communities, the Department of AH&VS through Govt. Poultry Farm, LFC, Dollygunj has supplied 100 Nicobari Grower Birds of 14 week’s age to the Aboriginal Tribes of Strait Island today under the Tribal subsidy scheme. The distribution was carried out through the Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti (AAJVS).
This initiative aims to enhance the nutritional security of the tribal population by promoting Backyard Poultry Farming among the Aboriginal Tribes. The Nicobari Poultry Breed, is well adapted to the local tropical environment and is ideal for Island conditions by providing sustainable source of protein through eggs and meat.
The Department of AH&VS is committed for supporting Tribal welfare for improving nutrition and livelihood generation among tribal families. The Department continues initiatives in other tribal areas to further strengthen nutritional and livelihood support system across the Island.
