
Diglipur, Jan 23: The All India Kisan Sabha, Andaman & Nicobar State Committee organized corner meetings and mike announcement at various parts of Diglipur Tehsil recently. The demands raised during the corner meetings were (i) to accord absolute ownership of land to landholders (ii) supply of fertilizers and seeds to farmers, (iii) against Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and Seeds Bill, 2025 (iv) subsidy on electricity to farmers (v) Minimum Support Price for agriculture products (vi) setting up of Kisan Mandi, etc.
Speaking on these corner meetings, Dr Gouranga Majhi, President, All India Kisan Sabha A & N State Committee briefly explained the various anti-farmer policies being pursued by the Modi government. Thousands of farmers in the country are committing suicide due to these policies of the successive governments at the centre. He said that farmers of these islands are not being extended with any benefits. He said that the Agriculture Department in the islands has failed to render any assistance to the needy farmers in the islands.
Addressing the meetings, Ramjeeban Sarkar, Vice President, AIKS State Committee and former Pradhan, Kalighat Gram Panchayat expressed concern over the rising prices of seeds, fertilisers, etc because of which farmers in the islands are unable to carry out farming in their land.
