A&N Administration Appreciates Residents of South Andaman for Responsible Approach Towards Judicious Use of Water

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 8: The A&N Administration sincerely appreciates the residents of South Andaman for their continued support and responsible approach towards the judicious use of water, particularly in light of declining water levels across major sources, including the Dhanikhari Dam.

The current situation has arisen due to significantly reduced rainfall recorded at Dhanikhari over the past year, resulting in a substantial decline in water availability. The rainfall data clearly indicates a concerning trend of inadequate precipitation, especially the North-East Monsoon of last year, which has directly impacted reservoir levels.

Given the reduced inflow and limited reserves, the Administration emphasizes the urgent need for continued collective responsibility in conserving water. Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid wastage, adopt water-saving practices in daily activities, and ensure that available resources are used efficiently and responsibly.

The general public have also been requested to remain vigilant and promptly report any leakage or wastage observed in the water supply system. Timely reporting will enable authorities to take swift corrective measures and prevent unnecessary loss of this vital resource. Such issues may be reported to the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) at 251185 or to the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) at 231179.

The Administration reiterates that conserving water at this critical juncture is essential to ensure equitable distribution and sustained supply for all residents. Continued public cooperation will be key to overcoming the present challenge and safeguarding water resources for the future.
