Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 18: Acting upon the assurance given by the Administration, during Chief Secretary’s visit to Harminder Bay in April 2025, the District Administration, Nicobar through ITDP has successfully fulfilled the long-standing demand of the Tribal Council by providing a mortuary van for the Sub-Tribal Council, Harminder Bay. The Chief Secretary had acknowledged the urgent need for such a facility during his field visit to Harminder Bay and promptly directed the District Administration to take necessary action. The Nicobar District administration ensured timely procurement and deployment of the vehicle.
Yesterday, the mortuary van was formally handed over to the Secretary, Sub-Tribal Council, Harminder Bay by the District Administration. The availability of the vehicle will greatly assist the tribal community by ensuring dignified and timely transportation of deceased persons—an essential facility long awaited by the residents of this region.
Two more mortuary vans have been procured by ITDP for Katchal and Chowra and are in transit at Kamorta for handing over to the respective Tribal Councils.
This initiative is a reflection of the Administration’s commitment to tribal welfare, responsive governance, and timely delivery of public services. The District Administration will continue to work closely with local communities to address their pressing needs and enhance quality of life across Nicobar District.
