Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 8: The A&N Administration has granted approval for the resurfacing of the crucial road connecting Hawaghar (Nayagaon) to Corbyn’s Cove. A financial sanction of Rs. 4.50 crore has been allocated for this significant infrastructure improvement project, with work set to commence shortly.
In light of the deteriorating condition of the road and the approaching monsoon season, the A&N Administration has directed the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) to expedite the tender processing and to award of the work after the sanction is received. Accordingly, the tendering work has already been completed. The Administration has prioritized this initiative due to the road’s vital role as a secondary access route to the South Andaman region, particularly the SVP (Secretariat/VVIP) Headquarters area, from Chidiyatapu and Garacharma.
This route sees heavy traffic, including commercial vehicles transporting quarry products, further underlining the need for immediate maintenance and repair. The resurfacing work will involve the application of Bituminous Macadam (BM) and Bituminous Concrete (BC) layers, which will significantly improve the road’s surface quality, providing a smoother, more comfortable ride for commuters and enhancing overall traffic flow.
The project, covering approximately 3 kilometers of the road, is scheduled for completion before the onset of the monsoon, ensuring minimal disruption to residents and businesses. The improvement of this critical infrastructure will contribute to safer, more efficient transportation in the region.
