A&N Administration Sanctions Improvement of Garacharma-ITI-Dollygunj Road

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 13: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has sanctioned the improvement of the vital Garacharma–ITI–Dollygunj road, a key alternate route connecting Garacharma to Sri Vijaya Puram. This important stretch, particularly from Garacharma Basti to Attom Pahad, has experienced significant deterioration due to the heavy movement of commercial vehicles and the presence of construction material stacking yards. Recognizing the hardships faced by commuters and local residents, the Administration has prioritized the upgradation of this crucial roadway to ensure safer and smoother connectivity.

An amount of Rs. 4.50 crore has been approved for the improvement of the road stretch connecting Garacharma Basti to the Anganwadi Attam Pahad Junction. Serving as a critical link between Garacharma Basti and Dollygunj, the project aims to strengthen infrastructure and enhance overall traffic management in the region. The sanctioned work reflects the Administration’s continued commitment to addressing public concerns and improving essential civic amenities.

The scope of the project includes resurfacing of the existing road along with reconstruction of drains and culverts to improve durability and drainage. Additionally, the existing blacktop width will be widened from 3.6 metres to 5.50 metres, a strategic move designed to accommodate increasing traffic density, reduce congestion, and ensure a safer commuting experience for the general public. Upon completion, the upgraded roadway is expected to significantly enhance connectivity to the lone National Highway from Dollygunj area and facilitate smoother transportation for residents and commercial operators alike.
