
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 9: The Andaman and Nicobar State Legal Services Authority (A&N SLSA) organized a series of impactful Legal Awareness Programmes on April 8 and 9. The sessions were held at the Directorate of Transport and the State Transport Services Bus Terminus, focusing on the Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and Child Safety.
The programme was graced by Shri Rashid Alam, Registrar, Calcutta High Court, Circuit Bench at Port Blair and Member Secretary, A&N SLSA. In his address, Shri Alam provided a comprehensive overview of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, highlighting the various schemes available to support vulnerable sections of society. He further detailed the legal framework of the POSH Act, explaining the specific procedures for filing complaints and the vital role of the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) in maintaining a safe workplace.
The event also featured Smt. Shanti Murugeshan, Helpline In-charge (Women Helpline 181), who provided a detailed analysis of misconduct under the Act and its psychological and social impacts.
Shri B. Binoy, Deputy Director (Transport) welcomed the initiative, noting the significance of such awareness for transport officials who interact closely with the public.
