Andaman: A Song of the Sea

— by Nelson Almeida

Where the horizon melts in shades of blue,

And whispers of waves feel ancient and true,

There lies a dream the oceans have spun—

The emerald grace of the Andaman Islands.

Palm trees sway in a lullaby slow,

Guarding secrets only the sea can know,

While silver sands, soft as time’s own sigh,

Kiss the feet of a turquoise sky.

In the hush of dawn at Radhanagar Beach,

The sun paints gold where waters reach,

Each ripple glows like a poet’s line,

A fleeting verse in a grand design.

Coral gardens beneath tides gleam bright,

A silent world in dancing light,

Where colors breathe and shadows play,

In the hidden heart of the bay.

At serene Wandoor Beach where calm tides softly gleam,

The shores unfold like a tranquil dream,

And at dusk in Chidiyatapu Beach’s golden light,

The sun takes leave in a fiery flight.

Birdsong echoes through forest and sea,

A quiet hymn of wild beauty,

Where sky and ocean gently meet,

In colors warm and shadows sweet.

From heights of Mount Manipur the islands unfold,

A sweeping tale of green and gold,

While waves embrace North Bay Island’s shore,

Where coral dreams and sea life soar.

Beneath clear waters, vibrant and deep,

A living canvas the oceans keep,

Of dancing fish and reefs that sway,

In nature’s pure, unspoken way.

And when dusk falls on Ross Island’s shore,

Echoes of time speak softly once more,

Ruins wrapped in a twilight hue,

Tell tales of a past the winds still knew.

Yet standing solemn in silent grace,

The Cellular Jail holds a sacred space,

Where walls still echo courage and pain,

Of souls who bore freedom’s endless chain.

Each narrow cell, each iron bar,

Speaks of a struggle carried afar,

Of sacrifice etched in history’s veil,

A nation’s heartbeat within that jail.

O Andaman, where the soul feels free,

Cradled in nature’s serenity,

A paradise carved by earth and sea—

A timeless hymn of tranquility.
