Sri Vijaya Puram, April 9: The President of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee, Shri. Rangalal Halder, has urged the Secretary (Health), A & N Administration, to take immediate steps for the repair and maintenance of non-functional ceiling fans in the New Medical Wards (Ground Floor and First Floor) at G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair.
In his letter, Shri. Halder highlighted the prevailing condition in the hospital wards, where several ceiling fans are either not working or functioning inefficiently which has been causing considerable discomfort to patients, their attendants, as well as the hospital staffs.
He emphasized that considering the warm and humid climatic conditions of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, proper ventilation is essential to ensure a comfortable and hygienic environment, particularly for patients undergoing treatment. The lack of functioning fans is adding to the distress of patients, many of whom are already in a vulnerable state.
Shri. Halder further stated that such basic amenities are crucial for maintaining minimum standards of patient care and hospital conditions. He expressed concern that the current situation is leading to unnecessary inconvenience and hardship within the wards.
In view of the above, the ANTCC President has strongly urged the Health Department to take immediate action for the repair or replacement of the non-functional fans at the earliest, in order to restore proper air circulation and ensure the well-being of patients and staff.
