Sri Vijaya Puram, March 3: The Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) has awarded the tender for the repair of the Chatham Causeway Bridge on Feb. 4, 2026. The bridge serves as a vital lifeline connecting Sri Vijaya Puram with Chatham Island and plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth transportation and daily commuting for residents and stakeholders.
Following the award of the tender, the executing agency has initiated preliminary arrangements, including the establishment of a work shed and mobilization of necessary materials from the mainland. The physical execution of the repair works is expected to commence by mid-March 2026.
The project has been entrusted to M/s Sanrachana Structural Strengthening Pvt. Ltd., Pune, Maharashtra, an experienced agency with proven expertise in executing specialized bridge repair works. The stipulated completion period for the project is six months. The Department is closely monitoring the progress to ensure timely completion, with efforts being made to finish the work within or before the scheduled timeframe.
Considering the challenges faced by the local community due to restricted movement across the bridge, this initiative of the UT Administration aims to significantly ease travel hardships and restore seamless connectivity between Sri Vijaya Puram and Chatham Island at the earliest.
The APWD reaffirms its commitment to strengthening infrastructure and ensuring the safety, convenience, and well-being of the public.
