B.Tech Civil Students Undertake Educational Site Visit to Water Treatment Plant, APWD Garacharma.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 01: B.Tech Civil Engineering students of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (BRAIT) undertook an educational site visit to the Water Treatment Plant, Garacharma, 11.5 MLD capacity as part of experiential learning and outcome-based education (OBE) practices aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP).

The visit provided students with practical exposure to various water treatment techniques essential for sustainable civil engineering practices. During the visit, students closely observed and studied the working principles of Aeration, Sedimentation, Coagulation, clariflocculator units, Rapid sand filtration, and Sludge removal processes, gaining real-time insights into municipal water supply systems.

The academic activity was thoughtfully planned as an innovative teaching pedagogy under OBE and NEP by Shri Altamash Mustafa, Training and Placement Coordinator and Associate Dean, IQAC, BRAIT, with the objective of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

The technical session and on-site demonstrations were facilitated by Shri M. Priya, Junior Engineer (Civil), APWD, under the able supervision of Shri Sukhvinder Singh, Assistant Engineer, APWD, PHED. The facilitators elaborated on operational challenges, quality control measures, and the importance of efficient water treatment in public health and urban infrastructure.

The visit proved to be highly enriching, enhancing students’ understanding of water treatment processes and water Conservation practices which is very relevant to Andamans.
