
Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 26: On February 25, 2026, at the call of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, large rallies and protests were organized by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and State Employees Federation workers across India, as well as in Sri Vijayapuram in South Andaman, Mayabunder (North and Middle Andaman), Diglipur, and the Campbell Bay area of Nicobar District. Some of the key points of the protests included the demand for proper honorarium, incentives, and social security for ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and for timely payment of honorarium. Additionally, daily-rated labourers employed in various Government Departments under A & N Administration, such as the Director of Health, the Malaria Department, and the Forest Department, who are engaged for six months under the name of seasonal workers, should be immediately removed from their seasonal worker status and be employed year-round, declaring them government employees. The contractual employees working in various Government Departments under contractors should not be removed from their jobs upon change of contractor.
Approximately 150 women workers and 100 male workers actively participated in this one-day protest at various locations, including Sri Vijayapuram. Similarly, approximately 50 Anganwadi and Asha workers participated in the Mayabunder area, approximately 250 women workers in the Diglipur area, and 30 Anganwadi and Asha workers in Campbell Bay. Finally, the workers submitted a letter to the Honorable Prime Minister, the Minister of Labour, Government of India, and the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through the District Commissioner. Through this rally and protest, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) ensures that it is always ready to advocate for the welfare of workers at the grassroots level.
A total of approximately 600 Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) workers participated in this protest and rally on February 25, 2026, across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. All the affiliated Units of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh as well as units of Andaman Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh jointly staged the protest and submitted the memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) along with the representative of different Units.
