
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 29: Reaffirming the steadfast commitment towards achieving Drugs Free Islands, the 19th Meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was convened today in the Conference Hall, Police Headquarters, under the Chairpersonship of Smt. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Law & Order/Intelligence) & Chairperson, ANTF, A&N Islands.
The meeting witnessed active participation from all key stakeholder Departments, including Health Services, Education, Transport, Forest, Fisheries, Social Welfare, Port, CISF, and the Airport Authority of India.
During the meeting, various pressing issues related to the menace of drugs in the A&N Islands were discussed comprehensively. Stakeholders shared valuable insights and proposed effective strategies to combat the drug problem, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts and coordinated action for achieving Supply Reduction, Demand Reduction, and Harm Reduction with respect to narcotic substances in the Islands.
A Power Point Presentation based on the compliance reports from the concerned Departments regarding the points discussed in the previous ANTF meeting was presented by Smt. Yogita Sharma, Dy. Superintendent of Police (Narcotics), A&N Islands.
While commending the on-going efforts to fight against the menace of drugs, IGP & Chairperson, ANTF highlighted the urgency of creating a drug-free environment in the Islands and reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to eradicating drugs from the territory. She also stressed on developing an effective mechanism for checking incoming cargo and improving rehabilitation facilities for drug-affected individuals. The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolve to work collectively towards achieving the vision of a Drugs Free Islands.
