
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 28: Under Poultry Development Plan, the Department of AH&VS has initiated an important step towards enhancement of quail meat production in the Island through Broiler Quail Farming. As part of this initiative the department is procuring 10,000 Parent Stock Broiler Quail (Nammakal-1) hatching eggs from Veterinary College Research Institute, Nammakal, Tamil Nadu in a phase wise manner and will be supplying to various departmental hatcheries across the Islands to promote Broiler Quail farming. Under this initiative, the first batch of 2500 nos. of Broiler Quail Hatching Eggs (2000 Female line & 500 Male line) has been received at Central Hatchery, Livestock Farm Complex, Dollygunj and set for incubation.
The Broiler quails are fast growing, high yielding meat type quail breed having 72%-75% dressing percentage, adaptable and ideal from commercial Broiler Quail production due to rapid growth and tender meat quality. The Department aims to expend quail meat production through this initiative and encourage farmers to adopt quails rearing as an additional source of income and for nutritional purpose.
