Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 5: Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, has demanded a judicial enquiry into the death of Shri P. Elango, Founder Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who allegedly died due to medical negligence at GB Pant Hospital on 04th February 2026.
According to information received from the family, Shri P. Elango, son of Late A.P. Periyaswamy and resident of Prem Nagar, Sri Vijayapuram, was taken to GB Pant Hospital at around 8:30 PM on 04.02.2026 with severe stomach pain. The family stated that he was otherwise physically stable at the time of admission.
It has been reported that after his arrival at the hospital, he was administered injections and treatment. Later, the attending doctors informed the family that fluid had accumulated in his lungs and administered additional injections. Subsequently, his condition deteriorated rapidly, and he experienced breathing difficulties. He was shifted to the ICU, where doctors later informed that he had suffered a heart attack. He was declared dead at around 11:45 PM the same night.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray stated that the bereaved family strongly believes that the death occurred due to medical negligence. He further pointed out that similar incidents have reportedly occurred in the past, but no effective action has been taken so far, leading to growing public distrust in the healthcare system of the Islands.
In view of the seriousness of the matter and in the interest of justice, transparency, and public confidence, a thorough judicial enquiry must be ordered into the circumstances leading to the death of Shri P. Elango. Responsibility should be fixed after proper investigation, and strict action should be taken against those found accountable,” the MP said.
