Sri Vijaya Puram, March 29: Census 2027 across the country would be conducted in two phases, Phase-l i.e., Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) and Phase-II, i.e., Population Enumeration (PE). In the first phase, the data relating to assets and amenities available to the households is collected and in the 2nd phase, the information about each member of the household is recorded.
In A&N Islands, the dates of Census 2027 have been notified. The houselisting operation shall be conducted from 16th April, 2026 to 15th May, 2026 and PE shall be conducted in February, 2027.
Under Digital India initiatives, Census 2027 shall make extensive use of digital technology to enhance the quality, efficiency and timelines of data collection and dissemination. There will be a provision for Self-Enumeration (SE) through a dedicated web portal (https://se.census.gov.in) for the general public which will remain open for a period of 15 days just before the house to house data collection by the Enumerator for HLO i.e. 1st April, 2026 to 15th April, 2026 for the A&N Islands.
Self-Enumeration provides a secure and flexible mode of participation in Census enabling the households to furnish household details at their convenience. Any one member of the household may self-enumerate and furnish household details in about 15-20 minutes time and get Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) in mobile/email. During the visit of Enumerator to the household, the SE ID will need to be shared with her/him for confirmation and final submission of Self-Enumeration data.
The Directorate of Census Operations, A&N Islands appeals every family in the archipelago to provide their census data through self-enumeration from 1st April, 2026 to 15th April, 2026.
