
Sri Vijaya Puram, March 3: CITU has organized Victory Rallies all over the union territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands today (3.3.2026) to celebrate the victory in the High Court case on the regularization of daily rated mazdoors. Hundreds of workers on different parts of the union territory marched on the streets to celebrate the victory and to demand (i) implementation of the High Court Order on regularization of DRMs (ii) regularization of all DRMs, contract, outsourced and part-time employees (iii) 1/30th of pay plus DA to all DRMs in Gram Panchayats and Forests (iv) enhancement of honorarium to Anganwadi Workers & Helpers and ASHA Workers and (vi) withdrawal of Deemed University and continued affiliation of Colleges in the islands with Pondicherry University.
The main programme was held at Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram) where the Victory Rally was taken out from Delanipur junction which after making round of important places of the town culminated in front of Municipal Council Headquarters at Aberdeen Bazar. Addressing the workers on conclusion of the Victory Rally, CITU General Secretary B. Chandrachoodan briefly explained tthe High Court order on regularization of DRMs and CITU’s fight on the streets and in courts during the last three decades. He asked the central government to implement the High Court without any delay as most of the daily rated mazdoors are working for the last 30 years to 10 years. He also demanded immediate enhancement of honorarium of Scheme Workers – Anganwadi and ASHA Workers in the islands. He also extended solidarity with the agitating college students and said that students belonging to poor families cannot undertake higher education in the Deemed University.
The Victory Rally was led by R. Surendran Pillai, President, D. Ayyappan and BC Bhattacharjee Vice Presidents, SP Kalairajan, Anand Rajan, M. Yugander and R. Rajendran Secretaries of CITU State Committee. Hundreds of workers, mostly women workers of Port Blair and rural South Andaman areas, participated in the impressive Victory Rally.
At Diglipur, the Victory Rally was taken out at Diglipur bazar in which a large number of workers participated. The Rally was led by Barun Biswas, Secretary, CITU Diglipur Zonal Committee.
At Mayabunder, the Victory Rally was taken out at the Mayabunder bazar area which was led by C. Murugeshan, Secretary, CITU Mayabunder Zonal Committee and Gopikulam and Amarjan Majhi of BKU.
At Rangat, the Victory Rally was taken out at the Rangat Bazar area, which was led by Projit Kumar Sarkar and Karuppaiah, President and Secretary respectively of CITU Rangat Zonal Committee.
At Kadamtala, the Victory Rally was taken out from Uttara Bridge upto Kadamtala Bazar which was led by Shipra Bala, Secretary, CITU State Committee.
At Baratang, the Victory Rally was taken out at Nilambur bazar area which was led by Daniel Aint, Vice President, CITU State Committee and Jayakumar, Secretary, CITU Kadamtala-Baratang Zonal Committee.
At Havelock (Swarajdweep), the Victory Rally was taken out by the workers which was led by Suben Bachar of Forest Union.
At Little Andaman, the Victory Rally was taken out at Hut Bay bazar area which was led by Rajesh, Secretary, Hut Bay Branch of ASNVMS.
At Katchal, the Victory Rally was taken out at Mildera which culminated near the office of the SRO, Katchal. P. Thyagarajan led the Victory Rally and addressed the workers.
At Campbell Bay, the Victory Rally was taken out at Campbell Bay Bazar which was led by R. Dhandapani, CITU State Committee Member.
