Sri Vijaya Puram, July 24: As part of the ongoing efforts under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (PMTBMBA), a comprehensive TB Awareness and Screening Program was conducted on 22nd July, 2025 at Government Secondary School, South Point.
The program aimed to raise awareness among school students and staff about Tuberculosis (TB)—its symptoms, modes of transmission, prevention, and the importance of early detection and treatment. A total of 81 students and 8 teachers actively participated in the event, which featured interactive and informative sessions conducted by healthcare professionals.
During the session, emphasis was laid on recognising the early signs of TB, the importance of timely medical intervention, and adherence to treatment regimens. Special focus was also given to vulnerable populations and the need for community-based surveillance.
The Headmistress and teaching faculty were sensitized and encouraged to extend their support to the cause by enrolling as Nikshay Mitras under the Ni-Kshay Mitra initiative. Through this, they can contribute towards the nutritional and emotional support of TB patients, strengthening community participation in TB elimination efforts.
Such initiatives form the cornerstone of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, aligning with the Government of India’s vision to eliminate TB by 2025 through Jan Bhagidari (People’s Participation), awareness, and preventive healthcare. By involving educational institutions and promoting responsible community engagement, the campaign continues to make meaningful strides in the fight against TB.
