COTPA Act, 2003: Revenue Officials Conduct Surprise Check on Establishments at Ferrargunj and Namunaghar Areas

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 16: In pursuance of the provisions contained under Sections 6 and 12 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (COTPA), a joint inspection was carried out today, by the Revenue officials along with Police personnel at Ferrargunj Tehsil.

The Revenue Officials inspected the commercial establishments and shops located within a radius of 100 yards from the educational institutions, namely GSSS Ferrargunj, GSSS Namunaghar, and GPS Ranchi Basti (Namunaghar Village).

During the surprise check, all the establishments were advised to adhere to the provisions of the COTPA Act, 2003.

The District Administration, South Andaman, remains committed to ensuring strict enforcement of the COTPA Act and protecting students and youth from the harmful effects of tobacco use. Regular surprise inspections will continue to ensure full compliance with the law.

All vendors are once again reminded to adhere strictly to the provisions of COTPA, 2003. Regular surprise inspections will be carried out, and any future violations will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
