Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 29: Following the Election Commission of India’s announcement on 27th October 2025 to conduct Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in 12 States and Union Territories across the country, the Chief Electoral Officer, Andaman & Nicobar Islands convened a meeting of recognized national political parties functioning in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, on 28th October 2025 at Secretariat Conference Hall. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee along with three other leaders attended the said meeting.
Vehemently opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) on the Bihar model in A & N Islands, CPI (M) State Secretary expressed party’s apprehension of excluding thousands of voters from the electoral rolls. Citing various reasons, D. Ayyappan said in the meeting that the intention behind conducting the SIR on Bihar model is to disenfranchise those people who have been living in the islands for several years.
Referring to his letter sent to the CEO, A&N Islands on 25.09.2025 conveying CPI (M)’s opposition to the proposed Bihar model SIR in the islands, CPI (M) State Secretary said in the meeting that it may not be possible for a large number of people born after 1.7.1987 to produce the date of birth or place of birth of their parents to become eligible for inclusion in the electoral rolls under SIR. He blamed the Election Commission of India for acting at the behest of the central government to deny the constitutional rights of the citizens to vote in the elections.
Others who participated in the CEO’s meeting on behalf of CPI (M) were B. Chandrachoodan and P. Sathyapal, State Secretariat Members and SP Kalairajan, SOC Member.
